Situated in the centre of Grasmere village (at the heart of the English Lake District), the Self Catering apartments are an integral part of the house which was built in 1850 on the instructions of a Manchester businessman. Around 1890 it changed use and became the Grasmere Catholic College. The adjacent street is named after it, i.e. College Street. The property lies 100 metres from the churchyard where William Wordsworth is buried. | |

During the first World War (1914-18) the house was commandeered for use as a convalescent home for soldiers recovering from their injuries received at the 'front'. At the time of World War II (1939-45) the house had once again changed use, this time to a vegetarian hotel. Around 1970 the property was converted to its present use, self catering holiday apartments. In 1992, and again in 1996 substantial improvements were carried out and the Guest House was constructed. Both businesses, i.e. the Self Catering Apartments and the Bed & Breakfast Guest House, are run by separate proprietors, Pat and Brian Taylor and Nicola and Peter du Toit respectively, and whilst they are run as separate entities, they do support each other to the benefit of both the owners and guests alike. |

A most popular self catering family apartment, Scafell offers an
attractive holiday accommodation for four and comprises:
lounge/dining room with Lakeland fireplace and log
burning stove, fitted kitchen with automatic dishwasher, TV and video player. Fully tiled shower room/WC
suite. Two bedrooms, the principal containing a new double bed
and the second bedroom new twin beds. Scafell also has double glazed windows providing views over the River Rothay and Fairfield mountain range. As we are continually improving standards all the time, this apartment now has a new powerful shower, a new floor has been fitted in the lounge along with curtains. New lighting and extra ambient lighting, also a new staircase carpet has been fitted again with some extra ambient lighting. Halogen lamps have been fitted in the shower room.

| SHORT HOLIDAY ACCOMMODATION RATES |
| Available throughout the year at a daily rate of one seventh of the weekly rates (minimum two nights £30 surcharge). Three or more nights at normal rates. Short breaks are available during season, only at one week's notice. Out of season are available at any time, indeed, book three days midweek and get a fourth day FREE - this offer is available from Sunday lunchtime 26th October 2008, ends Friday morning 6th March 2009. Excludes Christmas and New Year weeks plus February half-term holiday. |
Cot, high chairs and Vaude baby carrier are available at £10 per week each. IN THE APARTMENTS, GUEST HOUSE OR GROUNDS. |
