Fairfield Self Catering Holiday Apartment Access Statement
Introduction
Our self catering apartment is on the first floor of a stone build apartment block in the centre of Grasmere Village. We have tried to provide as much information as possible in this statement, if you have any queries, please do call.
Pre-Arrival
  • Situated in the centre of Grasmere village in the heart of the English Lake District, we do enjoy a quiet and peaceful location, yet within 1-2 minutes walking distance of local pubs, restaurants and shops.
  • Approaching by car from the North and North East – exit the M6 motorway at junction 40, head West on the A66 for approximately 10 miles, then South on the B5322 to connect with the A591 to Grasmere for 12 miles. At the Swan Hotel turn right into Broadgate Road and continue down into the village for 0.6 miles, then turn left into our driveway. (Please note our entrance is just 10 yards up College Street)
  • Approaching by car from the South – exit the M6 motorway at junction 36, follow the A591 North West passed Windermere and through Ambleside to Grasmere, at the roundabout turn right into Stock Lane for 0.45 miles and turn right up College Street into our driveway.
  • The main train station is at Windermere, where either a taxi or public bus can be used to travel onwards to Grasmere. Regular services for both are available, and taxis can be booked in advance.

  • Bus stops are located opposite Barneys Newsagents as well as Heaton Cooper Studio, both stops are approximately 1 minute walk down College Street to the side gate found along Beck Allans property wall, along a level tarred road.

  • Bookings / enquiries can be made via email, telephone, fax or letter.
  • This access statement is available in the website and a hardcopy can be found in the 'Welcome File' in the apartment.
Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
  • There is an allocated car parking space at the front of the building. Only one car parking space is reserved for each apartment.
  • There is no street parking but there is a public car park at the village entrance.
  • Car park is leveled gravel and even.
  • The entrance is clearly noticeable from the car park; where a bench is available for resting.
Main Entrance & Reception
The main entrance is on ground floor, through the porche at the side of the car park; where there is a resting bench and the apartments' keys are kept on the wall. The combination to collect the keys is sent with confirmation of bookings. Additional keys are available on request
  • The entrance door is 83cm wide and the key lock is 117cm high with an automatic self-closing mechanism. A doormat is in front of the door
  • Inside the front entrance, lighting is on the left hand wall. There is a hall 4 feet wide which leads to the staircase.
  • The staircase is 1 flight to the first floor. The stairs are 20cm high, 27cm deep and 82wide. They have hand rails on the right hand side.
  • Fairfield is located on the first floor (up 14 steps, second landing of the staircase), second door to the left hand side.
The Apartment
  • The door is 76cm wide inwards opening inwards to the corridor. It is a fire door so is heavy and has an automatic self-closing mechanism. Keyhole is 120cm high.
  • There is a threshold of 5 mm when entering the flat.
  • Coat hangers on the wall.
Lounge and Kitchen/Dining room
  • Door from the hall is 76 cm wide. This is a fire door opening inwards the lounge and dinning room
  • The lounge is open plan with the kitchen/dining room
  • Electric fire as focal point located at the right wall.
  • Laminated floor
  • Furniture is moveable and all is non feather
  • Two non feather double armed sofas
  • TV, Video and DVD provided with remote control
  • Dining table to the left of open plan. Attached to the wall
  • Chairs (moveable) - 4 chairs with padded seat and no arms.
  • Table lamp in the left corner
Self-Catering Kitchen
  • Fire door width 76cm; opening inwards to the open plan lounge/kitchen-dining room. Fire extinguisher at 42cm from dining table on the left wall
  • Worktop height 90cm through out
  • Catering standard crockery, glasses and cups are provided in the wall cupboards
  • Oven door is drop down, height of lowest shelf 40cm, can be accessed from the side. The hob is 55cm deep. Above the hob is an extractor unit plus cupboards
  • Microwave 50cm from worktop in the wall cupboards
  • Crockery on top cupboards 50cm from worktop
  • Laminated flooring
  • Evenly lit kitchen with main light at the entrance door
  • The fridge is under the work surface with a 4* ice box
  • Dishwasher under the sink worktop unit 86cm high and 45cm wide
Bedrooms
General
  • Non feather duvet and pillows provided
  • Sheets, duvet cover, pillows, towels and hairdryer are provided
Double Room:
  • Door width 76cm; opening inwards
  • Flooring is short piled carpet
  • Main room light has a switch on left hand wall by the door.
  • 5ft double bed
  • Bed height 54cm floor to top of mattress
  • Largest transfer space available to the left and right of the bed is 125cm
  • Bed is not movable
  • Wardrobe to the left of the bed. Dressing table in front of the bed - stool provided
  • Bed side tables 60cm high; with one draw each
  • Radiator to the right of the bed
  • Largest free space clear of doors and furniture is 5cm by 231cm
Twin Bedroom:
  • Door width 71cm; opening inwards
  • Flooring is short pile carpet
  • Ceiling lighting, switch on right hand wall by the door. Bed side lamps at each side of beds, switch on same wall
  • Two single pine beds against the walls
  • Beds height 60cm floor to top of mattress
  • Largest transfer space available between the beds is 30cm
  • Bed are not movable
  • Bed side table between the beds 60cm high; with three draws
  • Radiator on the wall behind the bed, under the window
  • Largest free space clear of doors and furniture is 75cm by 1195cm
Bathroom (shared)
  • Door width 68 cm
  • Laminated floor
  • Bath height 50cm, length 160cm and 67cm wide
  • Shower available over bath
  • Basin height is 80cm height
  • No vanity units under washbasin
  • Free space of doors and furniture is 30cm by 110cm
  • Toilet seat height 45cm
  • Space to right of toilet is 63cm and to left is 9cm
Grounds and Gardens
  • Grassed garden with seats and table available to all residents of the apartments
  • Small slope from the car park

  • A Welcome Pack is produced in dyslexia friendly font, plus separate folders for all manufacturers’ instruction leaflets and places of interest leaflets.
  • Children’s cot and highchair available for hiring on request (linen provided)
  • Non smoking and no pets allowed in the apartments and grounds
  • Good mobile phone reception
Laundry
  • There is a separate laundry room located in the garage building, to the right, ground floor, leveled entrance
  • Door opens outwards; this is a heavy fire door with automatic self closing mechanism
  • Lighting is uniform; switch located in the left wall
  • There is a standard washing machine, tumble dryer (both front loading); iron and ironing board together with a small clothes line. Charge of £1.00, to be paid into the meter located on the front wall
  • Private boiler on the right wall
