Bracken Fell Self Catering Holiday Apartment Access Statement
Introduction
Our self catering apartment is on the first floor of a stone build apartment block in the centre of Grasmere Village. We have tried to provide as much information as possible in this statement, if you have any queries, please do call.
Pre-Arrival
  • Situated in the centre of Grasmere village in the heart of the English Lake District, we do enjoy a quiet and peaceful location, yet within 1-2 minutes walking distance of local pubs, restaurants and shops.
  • Approaching by car from the North and North East – exit the M6 motorway at junction 40, head West on the A66 for approximately 10 miles, then South on the B5322 to connect with the A591 to Grasmere for 12 miles. At the Swan Hotel turn right into Broadgate Road and continue down into the village for 0.6 miles, then turn left into our driveway. (Please note our entrance is just 10 yards up College Street)
  • Approaching by car from the South – exit the M6 motorway at junction 36, follow the A591 North West passed Windermere and through Ambleside to Grasmere, at the roundabout turn right into Stock Lane for 0.45 miles and turn right up College Street into our driveway.
  • The main train station is at Windermere, where either a taxi or public bus can be used to travel onwards to Grasmere. Regular services for both are available, and taxis can be booked in advance.

  • Bus stops are located opposite Barneys Newsagents as well as Heaton Cooper Studio, both stops are approximately 1 minute walk down College Street to the side gate found along Beck Allans property wall, along a level tarred road.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
  • As you enter the grounds of Beck Allans apartment 7is immediately on your right above our double garage.
  • There is an allocated car parking space between the drive and the gable wall, for ease of identification there are 2 signs on the gable wall.(Reserved and Bracken Fell.)
  • The car space measures 254 cm wide by 600 cm. We ask that you try to park between the wall and wooden ground marker.
  • There is no street parking but there is a public car park at the village entrance.
  • Car park is leveled gravel and even.
The Apartment
  • The entrance door to The Apartment is situated to the left of the garage door and partly hidden by a large tree. The door is 1/2 glazed and measures 84cm wide. 198cm high. The door handle is on the right hand approx 96cm high. There is an external door mat.
  • There is a small lobby inside with a large cloak cupboard leading onto a stair case up to the first floor.
  • On the outside of the Cupboard adjacent to tread 2 of the stair case is a wall mounted 1st aid kit.
  • The 1st ten treads of the staircase are on a straight flight followed by a 3 treads taking a 90 degree right hand turn.
  • The Apartment is all on 1 level, however it does contain dormer windows resulting in reduced ceiling levels by external walls.
  • Gas fired central heating is installed with a timer which switch’s the system on and off during the mornings and evenings. The room temperatures can be controlled individually from radiator thermostats.
  • Whilst we are very pleased with the Apt which is graded 3 stars by the Tourist Board and bearing in mind the Staircase. Guest's with walking or sight disabilities may not find the apt. suitable.
Grounds and Gardens
  • Grassed garden with seats and table available to all residents of the apartments
  • Small slope from the car park

  • Fire alarms throughout; clear escape routes signed
  • A Welcome Pack is produced in dyslexia friendly font, plus separate folders for all manufacturers’ instruction leaflets and places of interest leaflets.
  • Children’s cot and highchair available for hiring on request (linen provided)
  • Non smoking and no pets allowed in the apartments and grounds
  • Good mobile phone reception
Laundry
  • There is a separate laundry room located in the garage building, to the right, ground floor, leveled entrance
  • Door opens outwards; this is a heavy fire door with automatic self closing mechanism
  • Lighting is uniform; switch located in the left wall
  • There is a standard washing machine, tumble dryer (both front loading); iron and ironing board together with a small clothes line. Charge of £1.00, to be paid into the meter located on the front wall
  • Private boiler on the right wall
